Occasional Thoughts (Intro)
I have heard it said that one of the problems with Christianity is that it is only about religious ritual and has little or nothing to say about day to day practical living. It would be difficult to get further from the truth. On the other hand I hear different people (or maybe even the same people at different times) saying that religion should stay away from morality and public issues, and concentrate on its spiritual aspects. The Bible does not recognise such an artificial separation between the spiritual and the practical.
From beginning to end of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, there is a wealth of material relating to our working lives – whether as employers or employees, whether in public administration and services or entrepreneurial business, whether in a small local firm or a global conglomerate. The Bible is a most practical book. The problem is that many of us really don’t want to be challenged by it. We’d rather avoid changing our ways if at all possible. The biblical gospel, however, insists on change, on conversion, on a transformation which reaches every corner of our lives.
In these occasional short think-pieces we’ll explore some of the challenges. For a listing see the Item Categories menu in the right hand column.
